HALF WAY BETWEEN

A MUSICAL AND A PLAY

I've developed something rare and powerful. Audiences respond profoundly.

"I like to get into your mode though. Because I haven't heard music like this before. And your free, you know some people stick to things, but you're very fluid."

PAPER GUN: An Evening of Original Music

A solo piano-singer performance exploring the gap between who we pretend to be and who we actually are.

PAPER GUN uses the image of a gun made of paper—looks powerful, but fragile and impermanent—to explore how we all maintain facades while struggling internally.

Through jazz-inflected melodies, storytelling, and humor, Paul Tosh creates an intimate space where audiences can drop their guards and connect with what's real.

This performance resonates with people who:

  • Have been shaped by life enough to sit with complex feeling

  • Value literary storytelling over spectacle

  • Appreciate emotional truth over ironic distance

  • Are ready to drop their guard

"There's something needs to be done" - not just written on paper, but lived.

Ideal for:

  • Small theater performances (50-150 seats)

  • Fundraising events for thoughtful organizations

  • Intimate salon gatherings

  • Arts programming at universities

"I especially like the substantive intellectual meaning that you weave into your music. You remind me of the inspiring Shlomo Carlebach עה”ש

The interface with the late great Rabbi Sacks is profoundly meaningful."

"Really good solid organic original material, it has to be experienced live, they’re not simple in terms of structure nor in terms of emotional content."

-Miguel Cavazos, session drummer, LA

“A poetic call to presence—reminding us that the pursuit itself is the purpose, and that love, more than anything, is the foundation of it all. So much fun to watch Paul’s creative brain at work… a true pleasure. He really knows how to incorporate an audience into the experience.!"

"Wow! This is as different a performance as anything I've seen in terms of the Listening Room Network! It's really more "performance art" than "musical performance"...as much poetry as it is music. He is clearly hugely creative in general, and his lyrics are poetic wonders. And, his piano playing is just exceptional!"

-Listening room audition review, Aug 2025

"Paul held up a mirror to the audience, inviting us to wrestle with ourselves, with each other, and with G-d.  And isn’t that the truest form of art? Even as the performance ended and we instinctively returned to lighthearted conversation, the depth of what we had experienced lingered within each of us, waiting to be unpacked in solitude. Unforgettable!"

FROM THE AUTHOR

My operetta asks: Are you going to do something about the gap between your facade and your truth? Or just keep firing a paper gun in the dark?

The songs explore:

  • ANOTHER OLD SONG: Same old story, written down but nothing changed

  • FEAR HATE: Don't let your pain turn into bitterness

  • YOU MAKE ME ROK N ROLL: My conversation with God about finding real value

This work is personal and cathartic - but in performance, it becomes universal. When I'm "in the mews" (meditative performance state), the perspective broadens beyond my story to touch something we all share.

This is music for the part of you that still believes in light.

Warm regards

Paul
